Tulsa Oklahoma (September 2, 2014) – Oil Capital Racing Series sprint cars return for their third and final visit of 2014 to the historic Tri-State Speedway in Pocola Oklahoma this Friday night where the battle for the season championship continues in an all out battle till the bitter end.
Caney Kansas native Andrew Deal shaved off six points after last Saturday night at the Osage Casino Caney Valley Speedway in what was already skimpy 20-point deficit over current points leader Danny Smith of Sapulpa Oklahoma going into that event. Deal finished second in while Smith scored fourth in the last wingless action of the year. Smith would secure the 2014 OCRS Non-Wing Championship which is comprised of the sprint car events conducted wingless style.
Including this weeks action, these two determined drivers are down to the final five events of the season for the overall title. The victor of the 5-event showdown will receive the prized ‘Harold Leep Championship Trophy’ at the annual OCRS awards banquet. While a couple of other drivers are mathematically in the running, it would take an extreme miracle or a failure of Smith or Deal to attend the final few shows.
While the dual points combatants wage their battle, the entire field will look to halt the tear Alex DeCamp is on. DeCamp won last Saturday and has won three of the last five OCRS events. DeCamp also won at TSS in May in what was his second OCRS career score. His first you ask? That came last year at…… you guessed it, TSS. Derek Cottrell of Fletcher Oklahoma was TSS king in June, which was his first career OCRS triumph.
Johnny ‘Hotrod’ Kent is showing why he is most likely to be the next driver to record his first OCRS win. After missing most all of the first half of the season, Kent has now scored in the top five in five of the last six races and he was fighting for the lead in the race where a win or a top five eluded him when a tire when down. Pay close attention to the #55 sprinter.
Point battles, hot streaking drivers and possible new winners will be on hand at TSS this Friday night. Come see why OCRS sprint cars are a show well worth viewing!
