After securing two wins during their previous double header back in July, Brown & Noffsinger Racing drivers were looking to keep the hot streak going at Wake County Speedway this past Friday night and Orange County Speedway on Saturday. The weekend’s events would mark the beginning of the second half of the USAC HPD Midget Eastern Series.
Friday night would mark the team’s first trip to the Wake County Speedway this year. The quarter mile track would provide some intense, close racing. In the first heat race of the night, BNR driver Nikki Carroll would drive to a win with brother Calvin close behind in 4th.
Meanwhile, in the second heat, Scott Hunter provided a BNR heat race sweep as he would go on to win with teammate Tyler Corriher finishing in the runner up position.
The 30 lap final event would see Tyler Corriher leading the BNR charge with a fourth place finish followed by Nikki Carroll and Hunter in 5th and 6th respectively. Nikki’s older brother Calvin would finish his night in the 10th position.
The team would be back on the road again as they traveled to the fast and furious 3/8 of a mile Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina for Saturday night.
After kicking off the night with Michigan native Hunter clinching pole, the night was looking very promising for BNR crew and drivers. However, the top 8 would be inverted forcing Scott to start 8th for the main event. This did move brothers Nikki and Calvin up to the 2nd and 3rd starting position though while team owner Wade Brown would take Corriher’s seat for the night and start 11th.
The start of the 30 lap feature shook the field up quite a bit as Hunter would utilize the high line to charge up to the 2nd position before lap 10. Meanwhile, Calvin would be immersed in a battle for the 3rd position while Nikki was holding his own in 5th. Unfortunately for Nikki, a problem forced him to make a stop on the back straight bringing out the caution and bunching up the field for a 7 lap dash to the finish. When the field went back to green, Hunter would have to fight a loose race car dropping him to 3rd where he would finish. Meanwhile Calvin would clinch a top 5 in 4th with Nikki ending his night P7.
“As expected, the tight ¼ mile at Wake County Speedway made the racing close and passing tough. It was a fun place to race and the fans really liked having us there. We ended up with one crashed car but the BNR team responded well and got it repaired in time to race it at Orange County Speedway on Saturday night. OCS is a very fast track. Scotty got the job done in qualifying with the new Honda midget engine. All 4 cars were fast in the feature and we had 3 of them in the top 5 but we couldn’t quite catch the Radical Race Gear #9 car, they did a good job”, team owner Wade Brown commented after the weekend.
