Inside Line Promotions – SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (Aug. 19, 2014) – Andrew Felker has recently found the consistency that avoided him throughout the first half of the season.
Felker has recorded four consecutive top-10 finishes and six top 10s in his last seven races, including a pair of events last weekend.
“We definitely feel like we’re starting to get some of the consistency back,” he said. “We got a new Boss chassis and we definitely have a lot of speed. We’re still getting it tuned in. It’s definitely something to build off of.”
Last weekend started on Friday with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Ill., where Felker rallied from sixth to third place in his heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.
“The track was pretty heavy and treacherous,” he said. “It had big holes top and bottom. I was way too tight early and got trapped on the bottom. I fell back to 12th or 13th. We had a red flag and I made a few little adjustments on the shocks.”
The changes helped and Felker moved to the cushion to rally into the top five late in the race.
“I basically stayed up high to work our way up to seventh,” he said. “I tried to go to the bottom on the last restart and got as high as fifth, but then slipped back to seventh.”
Following his seventh-place result and Saturday’s rain out at Macon Speedway in Macon, Ill., Felker wrapped up the weekend on Sunday at Angell Park Speedway with the USAC Honda National Midget Series, the POWRi Series and the Badger Midget Auto Racing Association.
“The track was really heavy and we missed the gearing a little bit in qualifying,” he said. “Then in the heat race I led the first two or three laps, but made a mistake on the bottom of turns three and four and let (Michael) Pickens by us.”
Felker was scheduled to start the main event on the inside of the eighth row after qualifying 15th quickest and finishing second in a heat race.
“They had the eight-minute clock on us for staging,” he said. “We had a spring break on the injection so we were late to staging and we were docked two rows and had to start 19th. Being on the inside we had the car plenty tight and we picked off a few spots early. The cushion kept getting higher and higher as the race went on.”
Felker rebounded from the penalty to record an eighth-place finish, which marked his 22nd top 10 of the season.
He is slated to take this weekend off before returning to action on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, Ill., for the Jason Leffler Memorial.
