Inside Line Promotions – JEFFERSON, S.D. (Aug. 19, 2014) – It has been a rough month for Jack Dover, who was involved in his third wild crash during the past four weeks last Saturday at Park Jefferson International Speedway.
“We were on that winning streak and it shows how fast it can turn around,” he said. “You’ve got to take the bad with the good.”
Dover, who borrowed an engine to compete in the ASCS Midwest Region event, kicked off the night by winning his heat race after starting on the pole.
“My girlfriend drew us a good number, which was really good that night,” he said. “Nobody really passed in the heat races or the feature because the track was so good.”
That earned Dover a spot in the feature redraw, where he pulled the highest number – eight – to start on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.
“We freed the car up a lot so it would rotate because the track was still really heavy,” he said. “We got to fourth right away and about halfway through we got to third place.”
Dover was in a tight battle for the lead when a caution came out with approximately 10 laps remaining.
“Before the yellow came out we were battling for first and second,” he said. “You could have put a blanket over the top three cars.”
Unfortunately, a couple of laps after the restart the front axle broke as Dover entered turn three.
“It shoved off to the right,” he said. “There’s no wall so we shot off the track, flipped and destroyed the car. I feel like we definitely could have won the race.”
Dover, who was credited with an 18th-place result, is taking this weekend off to regroup.
