Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (Aug. 18, 2014) – Travis Rilat rebounded in impressive fashion on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
After being unable to finish his ASCS Gulf South Region heat race, Rilat advanced through the B Main and scored a top-10 finish in the main event to earn the Hard Charger Award.
“We still could have done better,” he said. “We just didn’t have enough time to work on our car to get it where we needed. We had some things to do with the setup and gearing. We just didn’t get a chance because we were chasing other issues.”
Engine issues forced Rilat to pull in early during his heat race.
“We were having trouble getting the motor to run,” he said. “I went through everything before the B Main and still didn’t get it tuned up. After the B Main we got it fixed. It wound up being the fuel filter.”
After maneuvering from eighth to fourth place in the consolation race, Rilat garnered a transfer to start the main event on the outside of the 11th row.
“I had to go wherever we could,” he said. “We passed some low and some high. It actually rained about 5 o’clock so the track was exceptionally heavy and it was hard to pass all night.”
Rilat ended with an eighth-place result, which marked his 12th top 10 of the season.
He is scheduled to return to Richard Saumure’s sprint car this weekend for the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Oil City Cup at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
“That’ll be fun to go race in front of Frenchie’s home crowd,” Rilat said.
