Freeman Earns First Career NOW600 Heat Win and First Podium Finish in Oklahoma

Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Aug. 18, 2014) – Cody Freeman is ecstatic following his best career weekend in Oklahoma.

Freeman scored his first career NOW600 Series heat race win, his first career podium result in Oklahoma and a pair of top 10s during his tripleheader last weekend in The Sooner State.

“We were extremely pleased,” he said. “The only way we could have been happier is to have pulled off a win. To go up there and race that hard for three nights with that level of competition and make every main event is an accomplishment.”

The weekend kicked off last Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa with the NOW600 Series. After finishing where he started – fifth – in his heat race, Freeman maintained a top 10 throughout the main event before placing ninth.

“We improved on our results from the last time we were there, which was a positive note,” he said. “It seemed to be a different animal than the last time we were there. The car was good, but we felt like we had some carburation issues.”

The team made a carburetor change prior to Friday’s event at Outlaw Motorsports Park in Wainwright. It paid off as Freeman led all eight laps to claim his first career NOW600 heat race victory.

However, after lining up on the outside of the front row for the main event, Freeman was hit from behind as the green flag waved.

“On the initial start of the race I was involved in an incident where a car tire hopped my left rear and bent my shock,” he said. “I didn’t realize the shock was bent, but knew the car wasn’t handling as well.”

Freeman, who dropped as far back as fifth, rebounded to earn a third-place finish. It marked his best result with the NOW600 Series.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Port City Raceway, where an opening-lap miscue dropped Freeman to an eighth-place result during his heat race. That lined him up seventh in the B Main.

“We couldn’t put the setup we wanted due to the shock damage from the previous night,” he said. “I knew I wasn’t going to be able to run the bottom line.”

Freeman finished fourth in the consolation race to garner a transfer into the main event, which he started 19th.

“It’s a tight race track,” he said. “There were a few incidents I was able to steer clear of, but the only way I could handle was on top. I couldn’t get on the bottom groove and press any issues.”

Freeman earned a 15th-place result.

He will return to Texas this weekend for races on Friday at Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie and on Saturday at Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale.
