Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (Aug. 17, 2014) – Trey Starks is hungry for his first win of the season.

Starks nearly took advantage of a late opportunity to capture a triumph on Saturday at Skagit Speedway, where he has won four times in the past three years.

“Although we’ve ran a harder schedule this year, it’s tough to be at this point of the season and not have a win yet,” he said. “It’s come a little later than the past couple of seasons.”

After qualifying second quickest, Starks advanced from fourth to second place during his heat race. The feature inversion was a four, which lined him up on the inside of the second row for the 25-lap main event.

“I got into second on the third or fourth lap,” he said. “I was chasing the leader all race. He was quicker than us in clean air. On restarts it took a couple of laps to get up to him. Every time we got to traffic there’d be a caution.”

Starks saw his opportunity with approximately five laps remaining as the duo raced through traffic.

“The track was really narrow and one lane,” he said. “I knew if he got a lapped car between us it might be game over. I saw a shot and he bounced out of the groove. I got on the inside of him going into turn one. He bounced through a hole, straightened it out, came across the track and we got together. We both ended up spinning and stopping.”

Starks was forced to restart at the back of the pack following the incident on the backstretch.

“I had to take a shot,” he said. “It almost worked. It was just a little too close. If that would have went a little different we could have had a win.”

Starks rebounded to post his 17th top 10 of the season.

He will return to Skagit Speedway this Saturday for a final tune-up prior to the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series doubleheader at the track the following weekend.
