AFTER SEVEN MAINS, “BLACK JACK” BRIAN BROWN STRENGTHENS HIS LEAD IN THE COX DESIGN IOWA SPEED WEEK POINTS

Following the first seven features of the ten-race 2014 Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa Speed Week, ‘360’ Knoxville Nationals champion and Oskaloosa Front Row Challenge winner Brian Brown of Missouri continues to lead the point standings which will crown this year’s Jesse Hockett “Mr. Sprint Car” titlist. On Thursday, Brown, also known as “Black Jack,” won the first preliminary Lucas Oil-sponsored main of the 54th FVP Knoxville Nationals, presented by Casey’s General Stores.

The series continues with the FVP Knoxville Nationals, presented by Casey’s General Stores, on Friday (preliminary feature), Saturday afternoon (SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge), and Saturday night (national championship feature).

The unofficial top sixteen in the 2014 Cox Design Iowa Speed Week points after seven mains is as follows: 1., Brian Brown, 247 points; 2., Jason Johnson, 208 points; 3., Sam Hafertepe, Jr., 185 points; 4., Mark Dobmeier, 180 points; 5., Ian Madsen, 175 points; 6., Terry McCarl, 168 points; 7., Tony Bruce, Jr., 159 points; 8., Davey Heskin, Kevin Swindell, 127 points (tied); 10., Randy Hannagan, Wayne Johnson, 126 points (tied); 12., Danny Lasoski, 124 points; 13., Bronson Maeschen, 123 points; 14., Jonathan Cornell, 119 points; 15., Tim Shaffer, 117 points; 16., Bill Balog, 113 points.

The Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa Speed Week includes ten points-paying sprint car feature races in ten days, July 31 - August 9, between the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville and the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. The top three places pay $2,500, $1,000, and $500, respectively, with the winner declared the Jesse Hockett “Mr. Sprint Car” titlist. Past “Mr. Sprint Car” titlists include Ricky Logan (2002) of Arkansas, Shane Stewart (2003, ’04) of Oklahoma, Billy Alley (2005) of Nebraska, Jason Johnson (2006) of Louisiana, Wayne Johnson (2007, ‘08) of Oklahoma, Terry McCarl (2009) of Iowa, Sammy Swindell (2010, ‘11) of Tennessee, Kyle Larson (2012) of California, and Kevin Swindell (2013) of Tennessee.
