Knoxville Iowa is being invaded by sprint car fans, teams and drivers from all over the world. The small southeast Iowa town of 7,000 people is welcoming 100,000 thousand fans over the next 4 days at the 54th edition of the FVP Knoxville Nationals Presented by Casey's General Stores.
The Nationals is one of Motor Sports biggest races. The event is on par with the likes of the Daytona 500 or the Indianapolis 500. Victory at this event nets the winner $150,000 and forever links them in history as a Knoxville Nationals Champion.
NASCAR Stars Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon Kasey Kahne and Kyle Larson will all be in attendance at the Nationals this year. Stewart, Kahne and Larson all own teams that will be competing at the Nationals. Jeff Gordon has been very involved with the sprint car community in Knoxville helping raise money for his charity the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation. Jeff Gordon's Kick It For Children's Cancer will once again host a kick ball game at 11am Friday morning in Knoxville at Young's Park just south of the Knoxville Raceway.
They will also hold an event at Slideway's Karting Center just north of Knoxville at 2pm today as 50 fans get the opportunity of a lifetime to race against the NASCAR Stars to help raise money to fight Children's Cancer.
The Nationals racing action kicks off tonight at 7pm and with qualifying night #1. Thursday will be qualifying night #2. Friday night will Unite Nations Through Motor sports with the Speed Sport Knoxville World Challenge. Saturday will feature the 54th FVP Knoxville Nationals in the event Finale.
