Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 31, 2014) – Patrick Dills is on a roll.
Dills captured his second straight top-five finish and his third of the season last Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway, where he ranks fifth in the Northwest Extreme Sprints championship standings.
After qualifying sixth quickest, Dills took the early lead in his heat race around the quarter-mile oval.
“I led the first five laps and then Colin (Baker) passed me,” he said. “After he passed me up top I moved up.”
Dills finished second in his heat race. He then lined up on the outside of the front row for the 25-lap main event following the feature inversion.
“Right on the start I fell back to about seventh or eighth place in the first six or seven laps,” he said. “I was trying to run the top at the beginning, but it was way, way up there and I kept missing it. I tried and it wasn’t working out so I went to the bottom. I just got used to the car as it went on. I was entering on the bottom and it was working well.”
Dills rallied to score a fifth-place result.
“I’m good at the beginning of the night on tacky tracks and then we fall off in the main event,” he said. “We’re still working on setups and looking for improvement.”
Dills will return to Cottage Grove Speedway this Saturday to compete with the 360ci class, which features cars with approximately 200 more horsepower.
“I’ve got a lot more confidence,” he said. “My goal is to make the A Main.”
