Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (July 30, 2014) Matt Covington headed to Knoxville Raceway last Saturday night to test and tune for the upcoming 360 Nationals. Covington would end up with an 8th place qualifying effort and an 8th place finishing spot in the feature.
With the weekend off from National tour action, Matt and the team would load up and drive to the famed Knoxville Raceway on Saturday. The weekend trip would be an effort to try and learn some more stuff for the upcoming 360 Nationals this weekend.
After a solid 8th place qualifying effort, Covington would line up on the third row for the heat. The heat race result would be a 5th place finish to secure an A-Main starting spot.
Come feature time Matt would find himself starting on the outside pole in second for the start of the feature. With the front row starting spot, Covington would do what he could to race out front while also trying to learn a few things for the nationals. As the feature got underway it would become apparent the team was close on the setup but lacked in a few key places on the track for the upcoming weekend. Covington raced out front with the leaders for most of the race but as the race went on the setup was tiny bit off in mid corner for what Matt needed. The end result would be Covington slipping back as the feature came to a close and bringing home an 8th place effort.
“It was a good and rewarding night at Knoxville last Saturday” stated Covington. “Last few times we been to Knoxville we have struggled, but last weekend we closed the gap big time. We made a couple changes and got closer to where we need to be. We are still couple small adjustments off but after last weekend we are really close and headed in the right direction for the Nationals this week. If all goes well I believe we can be locked into the A-Main come Saturday night.”
