Inside Line Promotions – KENNEDALE, Texas (July 28, 2014) – Cody Freeman added another runner-up result at Mountain Creek Speedway last Friday.
Freeman maintained second place throughout the feature at the bullring in Grand Prairie, Texas, where he captured his third straight second-place finish and his fourth podium in as many races this season.
“You’re only going to run second so many times and then you’re going to slip in there and get a win,” he said. “When we look at last year’s stats we only had three podium finishes. For us to already have nine this year is rewarding. We’re moving forward and getting better.”
After placing fifth in his heat race on Friday, Freeman lined up on the outside of the front row for the main event. He stayed within striking distance until the leader capitalized on a late caution to pull away.
“We had a late-race caution and the leader got a better jump,” Freeman said. “He was able to get the line going into turn one so we settled into second comfortably. We didn’t have a car to beat him. In a nutshell, we had a second-place car.”
Freeman’s weekend concluded on Saturday at Kennedale Speedway Park, where he advanced from third to second place in his heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the second row for the 15-lap main event.
“The top three cars were fast,” he said. “The track got extremely slicked off for the feature. I wasn’t getting into turn three well.”
After waging a battle for fifth place for a couple of laps, Freeman ended with a sixth-place result.
“We feel like we had a good top five if not a top-three car,” he said. “I just missed turn three every time. I’d hit a slick spot and the car was washing out.”
Freeman is taking this weekend off to celebrate his mother’s birthday before returning to competition on Aug. 8 at Mountain Creek Speedway.
