Inside Line Promotions – BECHTELSVILLE, Pa. (July 20, 2014) – Alex Bright has a busy week ahead of him after he suffered his hardest hit of the year while leading the ARDC Midgets feature Sunday at Grandview Speedway.

While Bright wasn’t injured, his midget sustained severe damage during the vicious crash near the midpoint of the main event.

“I probably barrel rolled four or five times,” he said. “It’s definitely a bad way to end the week. I didn’t really get to look at everything, but there’s a lot of damage. It was a pretty hard hit. We’re going to have to pull everything apart and make sure the frame isn’t bent.”

Bright had been the car to beat throughout the night. After charging from sixth to second place during his heat race, Bright pulled the No. 2 during the feature redraw to line up on the outside of the front row for the 25-lap main event.

He took the top spot on the opening lap and began to build a sizeable advantage early.

“The car was an absolute rocket,” he said. “I think I had at least a straightaway on the second-place car with about five lapped cars in between.”

Bright was maneuvering through traffic on Lap 11 when a collision with a driver going a lap down sent him on a wild ride.

“From my point of view, I went in on the bottom of the track and I held the bottom,” he said. “Watching the two lapped cars in front of me, they both went into the corner on the top. The next thing you know I see him right next to me and he hit my right rear tire with his car, like he drove into me from the top side of the track. That spun my car sideways. It caught and I went flipping.”

Bright’s week had gotten off to a great start, beginning last Wednesday when he raced the Hyper Chassis house car for Mike Dicely during the wingless micro sprint event at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa.

After finishing where he started – second – in his heat race, Bright lined up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

“I got up to sixth or seventh fairly quick,” he said. “One of the cars I was racing with just about stalled the car going into a turn. I checked up thinking he was going to stop or spin out. I slowed down so much it about stalled the car and I fell back to 12th or 13th.”

Bright lost a half-dozen positions during that incident near the midpoint of the main event before he rallied for his 21st top five of the season.

“From there I just worked my way back up to fourth,” he said. “It wasn’t a bad run for our first time out in that wingless car and for where I had to start.”

Bright is scheduled to compete this Friday at Big Diamond Speedway in Pottsville, Pa., with the ARDC Midgets.
