Inside Line Promotions – ALBION, Neb. (July 16, 2014) – Last weekend was a special one for Jack Dover.
For the first time in his storied sprint car career, Dover stood atop the podium three times in the same weekend.
“We’ve done it before in the mini sprint days, but it’s been a long time,” he said. “I think it shows how good our momentum is right now. We didn’t have one problem or any troubles on anything. That makes it really easy and you can worry about what you have to do with race car and not worry about any problems.”
Dover earned the first of his trio of victories last Friday at Park Jefferson International Speedway in Jefferson, S.D., during an ASCS Midwest Region event. After spinning his tires on the start of his heat race to drop from the pole position to a third-place result, Dover lined up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.
“The only thing I did for the feature was put fuel in, change tires and change some fuel settings to make the motor run a little better,” he said. “We passed quite a few cars on the first lap. It helped starting on the outside. I think we got four cars in the first lap and then picked them off one by one slowly.”
Dover took the top spot with approximately five laps remaining en route to his first ASCS Midwest Region triumph of the season.
“When you can come from that far back with Billy Alley and all the good drivers starting in front of you, you know you’ve done something,” he said. “It was definitely a confidence booster going into the next night.”
It showed on Saturday during the NCRA and Nebraska 360 Sprints co-sanctioned event at Butler County Speedway in Rising City, Neb., where Dover powered from the outside of the front row to win his heat race by a wide margin.
“I knew our car was pretty good,” he said. “We broke the track record of the fastest time at 106 miles per hour.”
The result also earned Dover the most points of any driver, which put him on the pole of the main event.
“We were never threatened by any cars,” he said. “On restarts we just took off and never looked back. Everything went perfect. We got through lapped traffic ok and had no worries.”
The victory was Dover’s fourth of the season with the Nebraska 360 Sprints and his third in NCRA action.
The weekend concluded on Sunday with Dover claiming his heat race after starting third at Boone County Fair at Albion Speedway.
That earned him enough points to advance into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 4 in the random draw to line up on the outside of the second row for the main event.
“We got up to second right away and just ran behind the leader until about halfway,” he said. “We ran the top side the whole race. About halfway through the race I started driving harder. I pulled my wing back and went after it.”
Dover took over the lead around the midpoint of the race and he cruised to his ninth win of the season. It also marked his first career trip to Victory Lane in three races at that track.
Dover is slated to compete this Thursday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the Nebraska 360 Sprints and on Saturday at Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minn., for the Buffalo Wild Wings Shootout.
