Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 15, 2014) – Mission accomplished for Joe Trenca and the Mucci Motorsports team, which advanced into both features last weekend during their inaugural visit to the famed Eldora Speedway.
“We made both shows so that was good,” Trenca said. “It’s a really, really cool track. It’s definitely unique. It’s really hard to run. Friday night we were six or seven inches off the wall. Saturday night we were right around the bottom.”
The NRA Sprint Invaders doubleheader kicked off on Friday with Trenca qualifying 13th quickest, which started him on the inside of the second row for his heat race. He finished fifth to miss a lock-in position by only one spot.
That relegated him to the B Main, where he charged from fourth to pick up the win and a transfer into the main event.
“On the first start (of the B Main) I got two guys on the top,” he said. “We had a restart a couple of laps into it and I took the lead. I found the high side and it was really working as long as you could stay in the throttle and not let anyone slide you.”
After lining up 17th in the main event, Trenca began to work toward the top 10 until he was caught up in a violent crash near the midpoint of the race.
“It was a racing deal,” he said. “I got chopped and we backed into the fence. Then (Tim) Shaffer came around and hit us. It destroyed a car.”
Trenca was credited with a 19th-place result and the team was forced to use the backup car for Saturday’s race.
“We had that car built a little bit different than the rest of them,” he said. “Also, we ruined most of our good shocks in that wreck. We were just trying to deal with what we had on Saturday.”
With a new car and track conditions different than the previous night, Trenca timed in 23rd quickest during qualifying. He then finished fourth in his heat race to lock himself into the main event, which he started 14th.
“The car was just dogging the starts,” he said. “Plus, we didn’t find the bottom until later in the race. A lot of people told us you just have to have laps there. That hurt us in the feature Saturday night.”
Trenca ended with a 19th-place finish.
He is taking the next two weekends off before returning to action on July 28-29 at Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada.
