Inside Line Promotions – CALIFORNIA, Mo. (July 9, 2014) – Brandon Hanks is ready to stop by a local blacksmith.

“It seems like I’ve been saying this every week, but we’re fast,” he said. “We just don’t have any luck. I need a golden horseshoe and I can’t seem to find one. I need to call Jimmie Johnson to borrow his.”

Hanks ran into some tough luck during a three-race weekend with the ASCS Warrior Region in Missouri, where he was caught up in a pair of crashes and one officiating blunder.

The action kicked off last Thursday at Double X Speedway with Hanks winning his heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That advanced him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the highest number – eight – in the random draw to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“I got a bad redraw and then the track took rubber,” he said. “When the track took rubber we were passing them left and right. We were able to move up through there. Then we got together with another driver on a restart trying to pass him on the inside. We went to the back and were able to fight our way back into the top 10. That’s the luck thing I’ve been talking about.”

After being involved in a crash while restarting fourth with approximately 10 laps remaining, Hanks rebounded from the back to post a ninth-place finish.

His team tackled Callaway Raceway in Fulton on Friday, when Hanks advanced from seventh to fifth place in his heat race. That earned him enough points to lock into the main event, which he started on the outside of the eighth row.

“Friday I never felt like we had the fastest car,” he said. “We didn’t make enough adjustments. We just never could find a whole lot of speed. Then we got caught up at the beginning of the feature in a pileup. It was like a roadblock. Everybody kept piling into each other.”

Hanks was hit from behind and shoved into the crash. After a quick visit to the work area to change the left rear tire, he restarted 17th before rallying for a 12th-place result.

Following a rain out on Saturday at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Hanks capped the weekend on Sunday at Double X Speedway. After earning a second-place finish in his heat race, Hanks was scheduled to line up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

“I was riding around the race track and two guys pulled up next to me pointing at my right rear saying my shock was broke,” he said. “I could feel it, too. I stopped on the front straightaway in front of an official. He told me to go to the work area and they’d push me back on the track. My dad got a new locknut on top of the shock and fixed it. We were sitting there waiting to be pushed out and they wouldn’t do it. They turned the lights out and started the race. That wasn’t a good deal. I’d like to figure out why they wouldn’t let me back on.”

Hanks didn’t take the green flag and he was credited with a 20th-place finish.
