Inside Line Promotions – VERNON, N.Y. (July 8, 2014) – Joe Trenca is more than excited to make his debut at Eldora Speedway this weekend.
Trenca has been to the famed half-mile oval to watch several times, but the NRA Sprints doubleheader this Friday and Saturday will mark his first time on the track.
“It’s definitely going to be cool,” he said. “The atmosphere is pretty cool. I’ve got to stay focused on my race and hopefully get a good time trial lap and get up front in the feature.”
Trenca is coming off a solid performance during the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints Speedweek throughout New York last week.
“It was a tough week, but almost every time we were on the track we moved forward,” he said. “We started in the back of everything all week. I wish we would have had some better starting positions and some better finishes.”
After Wednesday’s opening round was rained out at Brewerton Speedway in Brewerton, Trenca tackled Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge on Thursday.
“The track was very narrow and the cushion was almost a foot high,” he said. “It was a pretty hard track to drive and hard to pass on. We happened to get some good restarts and the bottom was working for me.”
Following a 10th-place result in his heat race, Trenca rebounded in the B Main when he charged from 10th to fifth. However, that was one spot short of transferring into the feature.
The Mucci Motorsports team invaded Can-Am Motorsports Park in LaFargeville on Friday, when Trenca maneuvered from ninth to fourth place in his heat race. He then drew the No. 7 in the random feature redraw to line up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.
“We were up to fourth in the feature and I hit an infield tire on Lap 2,” he said. “I think the left front tire went flat on Lap 11. I knew something was wrong. We had a caution on Lap 19 so I loosened my belts and looked over and we had a flat tire. I pulled in and they didn’t let us back on the track.”
After maintaining a top five throughout the main event despite the flat left front tire, Trenca was trapped in the work area during the caution with only a handful of laps remaining. He was credited with a 23rd-place finish.
Fulton Speedway in Fulton hosted a Speedweek event on Saturday. After finishing eighth in his heat race, Trenca charged from 12th to fourth place in the B Main to earn a transfer with a last-lap pass. He then rallied from 24th in the main event to a 12th-place result.
“It was nice passing a bunch of cars,” he said. “I was running the bottom picking cars off one at a time. We were in dirty air so it was hard to do a lot. I burned the tires off too quick and the bottom went away the last part of the race.”
Speedweek wrapped up on Sunday at Utica-Rome Speedway, where Trenca advanced from sixth to second place in his heat race. Unfortunately he drew the No. 12 in the feature redraw to line up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.
“The heat race was good and I found some moisture on the top in turns three and four,” he said. “In the feature the car was good, but it was hard to figure the track out. It was a lot slicker than I’m used to. Restarts got us a little bit as well.”
Trenca ended with a 20th-place finish.
