Inside Line Promotions – SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (July 8, 2014) – Tyler Thomas is looking forward to this weekend’s challenge following a rough outing at the Pepsi Nationals.

“It was really bad,” he said. “We’ve been struggling on fast tracks lately. They had some rain so the track was pretty fast all weekend. We just had no speed.”

Thomas ended with finishes of 20th and 14th, respectively, during the tri-sanctioned event at Angell Park Speedway with the Honda USAC National Midget Series, the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series and the Badger Midget Auto Racing Association.

“These cars are a little different chassis-wise from our old cars,” he said. “They’ve been really good on the slick tracks. When the tracks are heavy and fast we can’t get the car loosened up enough. We’re going to make some changes this week and move some tubes around to make it like our old car.”

Thomas qualified 20th quickest on both Saturday and Sunday at the Pepsi Nationals.

“We were behind the eight ball after qualifying,” he said. “The competition is so tough up there that if you don’t qualify well it makes it tougher to get up there and race with those guys for the win.”

On Saturday, there were enough cars that Thomas made the heat race inversion. After starting on the outside of the front row, he won his heat. That lined him up 18th in the main event.

“It ended up slicking off Saturday,” he said. “The track just came to us. We got up to seventh and the right rear bleeder stuck and the tire went flat with about five laps to go.”

Thomas had to exit the track early and he was credited with the 20th-place result.

With a lower car count on Sunday, Thomas missed the heat race inversion by a couple of positions. He finished where he started – seventh – in his heat race, which relegated him to the B Main. He placed seventh in the consolation race to earn the final transfer into the main event.

“Sunday the track stayed heavy all night,” he said. “We could not get freed up and moving. There weren’t very many yellows and it was single file in the back.”

After starting on the inside of the 10th row, Thomas advanced to a 14th-place finish.

He is scheduled to compete this Friday at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Ill., and make his debut at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in El Paso, Ill., on Saturday with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series.
