Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (July 2, 2014) – Channin Tankersley is poised to take his ASCS Gulf South Region points lead into a tripleheader this weekend in Texas.
“I’d really like to have more three-day events and weekday events,” he said. “From a racer standpoint, the more seat time you have and the more you’re in the car the better you are going to be.”
The action kicks off on Thursday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, where Tankersley won a heat race before finishing fourth in the feature in May during his lone race at the track.
“It’s a fast track,” he said. “It’s kind of bigger with tighter corners. It was a pretty fun hammer-down joint.”
Shady Oaks Speedway in Goliad hosts an event on Friday. Tankersley had a frustrating performance at the track earlier this season when he was involved in a crash that ended his night early.
“We just had problems and had no speed,” he said. “We were horrible. We had a lot of work to do to get up to speed at that place. We threw the book at it for the feature and started 20th and got up to eighth before I got into a fender bender.”
This weekend concludes on Saturday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, where Tankersley placed second in his most recent appearance this season.
“Battleground is my home track,” he said. “When the track is right it is good racing. It has multiple grooves. Last time we were there it had a monster cushion and lapped traffic was a big factor.”
The objective for the three-day weekend remains the same as it has been all season.
“Just to keep it up,” he said. “We’re trying to stay consistent and click off really good finishes. If we can do that we have a pretty good shot at winning the championship.”
