BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — July 1, 2014 — Fresh off the heels of three consecutive top-10 finishes in the Upper Midwest, Kraig Kinser begins the busiest month of the year for the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series with momentum. The third-generation takes to the track three times this week, which open the 15-race month for the best sprint car drivers in the world.
The holiday week trio of races opens for Kinser aboard the Mesilla Valley Transportation/Casey’s General Store/King Racing Products Maxim on Wednesday, July 2 at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota. He then heads to Dodge City Raceway Park in Kansas, for the Boothill Showdown Presented by Roto-Mix on Friday, July 4, and Saturday, July 5.
Last weekend, Kinser finished ninth at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. He followed that up with a seventh-place showing at Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin, and wrapped up that set of races with a ninth-place effort at Cedar Lake Speedway, also in Wisconsin.
“We had three solid races last weekend,” said Kinser. “We’ve been getting closer and this is a good time of the year to hit your stride with all of the races coming up, especially at tracks we’ve traditionally done well at. We are excited to get back to the track and pick up where we left off at Cedar Lake (Speedway) on Sunday.”
Kinser charged from the 14th starting spot to finish sixth last season at Huset’s Speedway. In his career at the high-banked three-eighths-mile, the native of Bloomington, Indiana, has five top-10 finishes, including four straight. Kinser recorded the best finish of his career at Huset's in 2005, coming home second. He made his debut at the track in 2003.
“Huset’s (Speedway) is a place we’ve always done pretty well at,” he shared. “The high-banking allows you to keep your momentum up around there. You can work the bottom as well. We’ve been close there a couple of times and have a good string of showings the last few years.”
At Dodge City Raceway Park, in 2013 Kinser was third in the opener and seventh in the finale at the three-eighths-mile. The 2005 winner of the Knoxville Nationals was victorious at the track in 2012, claiming the second feature of the two-night event. In that race, he started on the pole and led all 30 laps to pick up the victory over his father Steve. Kinser has made 15 starts in his career at the banked oval, earning nine top-10 finishes along the way.
“I don’t know exactly what it is about Dodge City (Raceway Park), but we always seem to be up front there,” said Kinser. “Winning there in the past definitely helps, as it boosts our confidence every time we roll in there. If we can get ourselves in the dash and start in the first four rows each night, we should have a shot at it.”
Kinser is ninth in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship standings entering this week’s three races. He has 15 top-10 finishes on the season, with two of those being top-five performances.
