Hagar Caps Ohio Speedweek With Top 10 at Fremont Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (July 1, 2014) – Derek Hagar achieved his objective last week.

Hagar advanced into every main event at the races he competed in for Pete Grove during the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Speedweek, which included a top-10 finish in the finale.

“It went pretty good,” Hagar said. “It was a good learning experience all the way around. There were a bunch of good cars sitting in the pits most of those nights. To go out and make every show, it says a lot for the guys who worked on the car and it boosted my confidence as a driver.”

Following a handful of rainouts, Hagar wrapped up the second half of the Speedweek starting last Thursday at Fremont Speedway. He qualified 17th quickest and finished second in his heat race to lock himself into the main event, which he started on the outside of the eighth row.

“We had a really good night,” he said. “We got the car a little too snug in the feature. I couldn’t roll the corners as good as we needed to. I think we backed up to 19th and made our way up there toward the end of the race.”

Hagar ended with a 13th-place result.

The team tackled Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio, on Friday, when Hagar timed in 18th quickest before he won his heat race. However, after starting on the inside of the eighth row for the feature, Hagar’s night ended early when he was caught up in a crash.

“In the feature we were a little too snug again,” he said. “We were backing up. On lap eight or nine Sheldon Haudenschild spun out in front of Tim Shaffer. He moved and Haudenschild was coming down in front of me. I hit him.”

The damaged relegated Hagar to the work area. Unfortunately, his team wasn’t given any time to make repairs and the race restarted with Hagar credited 22nd.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Fremont Speedway, where he put together his most consistent night. Hagar qualified 12th quickest and finished fourth in his heat race to lock himself into the main event.

“We finally got the qualifying down and we made it through our heat race,” he said. “We were just a little opposite of the other nights in the feature. The track slicked off real bad. The car was too loose. We salvaged a top-10 finish out of it so I can’t complain.”

After starting on the outside of the fourth row, Hagar battled inside the top 10 throughout the 50-lap feature before he ended with a 10th-place result.

Hagar is scheduled to return to Ohio this weekend. He will pilot his car on Thursday at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield for the 3rd annual Bob Reynolds Memorial. Hagar will then drive for Grove on Friday at Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg and on Saturday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville with the All Star Circuit of Champions.
