Bright Overcomes Opening-Lap Crash to Score Podium Finish at Path Valley

Inside Line Promotions – SPRING RUN, Pa. (June 29, 2014) – Alex Bright was forced to work extra hard for a podium finish on Sunday during his season debut at Path Valley Speedway Park.

After winning his heat race from the outside of the front row, Bright pulled the No. 9 during the feature redraw to line himself up on the inside of the fifth row for the 25-lap winged micro sprint main event.

Unfortunately, Bright’s starting position was all for not as he was caught up in a crash on the opening lap.

“It was something that was right in front of me and I didn’t have time to miss it,” he said. “The car was fine, but I had to restart 24th.”

With added intensity from the collision, Bright went to work as soon as the race restarted.

“I just got on the gas,” he said. “The track was pretty slick and I hugged the bottom where everybody else was slipping off. The car was set up pretty good. It was kind of a tricky track with how slick it was. I used the inside berm to get more bite than everybody else.”

Bright rallied into the top 10 near the midpoint of the race and he cracked the top five several laps later.

“Most of the passes I did were on the restarts or one to two laps after a restart,” he said. “I definitely think we had the car to beat. We could have won it if we didn’t get in that wreck, but that’s racing.”

Bright picked up a pair of positions in the closing laps to garner a third-place result, which marked his 18th top five of the season.

“To not give up and to start in the back like that and come all the way through to get a podium finish, it made my night,” he said. “It’s not the result we’re looking for, but it’s one I’ll take home and not be upset about.”

Bright will return to action this Thursday at Susquehanna Speedway Park in Newberrytown, Pa., for a winged micro sprint event.
