Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (June 25, 2014) – Seth Bergman rounded out the Bob Westphal Memorial Cup Speedweek with his best career performance during the five-race, eight-day spectacle.
Not only did he record his first career Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Speedweek triumph during the opening round on June 14, Bergman registered four top 10s in the five races to place third in the standings.
“It wasn’t spectacular, but it wasn’t the worst,” he said. “It was consistent as far as top 10s go. I want to be consistent in top fives though. I wanted to win Speedweek, especially starting out with the win. There was a lot of good that came out of it.”
Last week started on Wednesday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., where Bergman finished where he started – fourth – in his heat race before claiming the third transfer position in a B Main. That lined him up on the inside of the 11th row for the main event.
“It started off pretty good,” he said. “I was going forward at a pretty good pace. We were working our way through there. I feel like we would have had a better effort to get into the top 10, but the rubber came about halfway. I just rode around in the rubber the rest of the race.”
Bergman rallied from 21st to finish 13th.
He headed to Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., on Thursday, when Bergman maneuvered from fourth to third place in a heat race. That locked him into the feature, which he started on the outside of the eighth row.
“Creek County was tough,” he said. “The race track was really, really heavy. It was difficult to pass. You were going to have to be really freed up to get around there good. I don’t think anybody was. I just took advantage of things when I could.”
Bergman rallied from 16th to a ninth-place result.
On Friday, the team ventured to Outlaw Motorsports Park in Wainwright, Okla. After picking up a position to finish third in his heat race, Bergman missed the feature redraw by two spots. That lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.
“It was another blah night for us,” he said. “I picked off a couple of guys on the start at the top. I was set up to run the top of the race track. I tried the bottom a couple of times and it wasn’t good enough or I wasn’t patient enough to run down there. I got what I could get early.”
Bergman recorded a seventh-place finish.
The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway, where Bergman advanced from fifth to third place in his heat race. The team elected to change engines prior to the feature, which made him start 16th.
“I barely had enough time to change the motor,” he said. “We didn’t have any time to work on the car. I was way too free right off the bat. There was a red flag early so I came in and made a few adjustments. We just tightened up a little bit. It was in the right direction. We just didn’t have enough time to go far enough with it. We went back out, started on the tail and I was ok.”
Following the early pit stop, Bergman powered from the back to a ninth-place result.
He is scheduled to compete this Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., and on Sunday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., for the Steve King Memorial with the ASCS Sooner Region and NCRA.
