(Bill W) June 25, 2014 – Josh Schneiderman and the Deuce Motorsports #49 team are geared up for Friday’s visit by the World of Outlaws to their home track, the 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. The West Burlington native finished third with the WoO there a few years back and hopes to improve on that. Josh finished on the podium last Friday night with the Sprint Invaders at Bloomfield Speedway in Iowa before pulling double duty on Saturday at Knoxville.
Josh would finish second in his heat and transfer to the Dash on Friday at Bloomfield. “We ended up having a really good car,” he says. “The track was awesome with a lot of passing. We were able to get by Sawyer Phillips late. Everything worked out for us.”
Starting fifth in the Dash, he would move up a spot. “We fell back early, but we really got the car working well off the bottom of turn two,” says Josh. “I thought at that point, we had a good shot at the feature. We were one of the few cars that were good on the bottom.”
Starting third in the main event, Josh was in contention early. “We were racing with Cole Wood there for second, when a caution came out,” he says. “I really didn’t need that at all. That allowed Billy (Alley) to close up on us, and get us for third at that point. We were able to work around Cole after that, and stayed in contention.”
Josh won at Bloomfield last August, but would come home a strong third on this night. “We had a beautiful racecar,” he says. “We caught some lapped traffic at the wrong time. Overall, we were happy to run third. We could have used a caution later in the race to clear up some lapped traffic, but it was a solid point night for us.”
Josh would time in 21st with the 410’s at Knoxville on Saturday. “We’ve been struggling a little bit qualifying with the 410 stuff at Knoxville,” he says. “I think we may have learned some things on Saturday that we’ve been missing. I’m hoping we’re headed in the right direction. Right now, with the competition at such a high level there, a tenth or two is all the difference. I think we were a tenth or two off of tenth quick. We need to get over that hump a little bit.”
He did what he had to do, coming from outside the heat invert (7th), and finishing fifth in the heat. “Especially running double duty, we didn’t need to be running the B there,” says Josh. “I was happy to get through the heat race. The guys made the car really nice, and we were competitive. The racetrack is starting to come around, and we had a couple grooves to race on.”
Starting 17th, he would work his way up to 14th in the competitive feature event. “There was some tight racing back there,” says Josh. “We were able to get to fourteenth. It seems this year, if you pass any cars in the feature, you can hang your hat on that. Right now, our focus is qualifying better, so we’re not starting back there.”
For the first time this season, the team brought their 360 into action Saturday as well. They would time in tenth quick. “Tenth wasn’t bad with our 360 motor,” says Josh. “My uncle John (Schulz) won with this motor at Knoxville back in 2005. We were pretty excited to get in the top ten with that.”
He would run sixth in his heat race. “Car-wise, we were pretty good,” says Josh of his heat run. “We had to go to the top, because we started there, and that was where we noticed the biggest difference motor-wise. But we were able to make the top six and keep our time spot for the feature.”
Starting eighth in the main event, Josh would checker ninth. “I was able to maintain most of the way,” he says. “I got a little high in three and four and Jarrod (Schneiderman) was able to slip by us. We were able to stay right there with him and finish ninth. Overall, we were impressed with that program for what it is.”
The team is excited for this weekend. “We’re actually pulling double-duty again, this time at Burlington,” says Josh. “We’ll obviously run with the Outlaws, and then we’ll also be running the 305 car. We’ll be back at Knoxville in the 410 on Saturday.”
