Inside Line Promotions – BAYTOWN, Texas (June 24, 2014) – Travis Rilat scored his third victory of the season last weekend.

Rilat, driving the Richard Saumure owned sprint car, kicked off the ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader on Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, by maneuvering from seventh to fourth place in his heat race.

That earned him enough points to advance into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 4 in the random draw to start the main event on the outside of the second row.

“That set us up good enough,” he said. “Halfway through the race the car came alive and the track as well. We were able to maneuver into the lead when we got into lapped traffic.”

Rilat spent most of the first half of the race in third place. He moved from third into the lead around Lap 13, but the caution came out when one of those cars spun out. That sent Rilat back a spot for the restart. However, it didn’t take long for him to retake the lead and on Lap 16 Rilat made the race-winning pass.

“I was able to get around Travis Elliott on the top in turns three and four,” he said. “It was smooth sailing after that.”

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Royal Purple Raceway, where Rilat rallied from seventh to second place in his heat race. That made him the high-points driver and earned a trip to the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 3 to start the main event the inside of the second row.

“We didn’t get the car good enough,” he said. “I didn’t get a good start and the car wasn’t that good.”

Rilat battled for a podium position throughout the feature before he ended with a fourth-place result, which marked his eighth top 10 of the season.

He will take this weekend off before competing in an ASCS Gulf South Region tripleheader – July 3 at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas; July 4 at Shady Oaks Speedway in Goliad, Texas; and July 5 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas.

“It’s kind of funny how I met (Shark owner) Marc Huson when I went up there to Washington for an ASCS National Tour race and Triple X Race Co. was next door,” Rilat said. “I was wandering around talking on my cell phone and saw a sprint car next door. I walked over, looked around and introduced myself.

“He’s been a great friend. He was instrumental with a support group for me and my family when I was in the hospital up there. He and his wife helped us out in a hard time. As far as his engine skills go, he’s one of the best in the country. There’s only a handful of great engine builders across the country and I consider him one of the best.”
