Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (June 24, 2014) – Josh Baughman’s spirits are up despite a rough patch to end the Bob Westphal Memorial Cup Speedweek with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last weekend.

“Overall, I felt like we had a great week,” he said. “It gives us a lot of momentum going into the rest of this season. We had to race our way into every race. Going forward and not backward is a plus. It’s something to build on.”

Last week’s competitino began on Wednesday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., where Baughman maneuvered his Jason Johnson Racing entry from fifth to fourth place in his heat race. That relegated him to a B Main, which he finished in the runner-up position to transfer into the feature.

“We knew we had to be patient,” he said. “Just being patient and passing cars and not getting in trouble was the key. We got up to eighth at one time and I jumped the curb in turns one and two and it put us back to 14th.”

After starting on the side of the 10th row, Baughman ended with the 14th-place result.

Speedweek resumed at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., on Thursday, when he rallied from seventh to fifth place in his heat race and from fourth to third place in a B Main. Baughman then advanced from 21st to a 15th-place finish in the main event.

“Creek was a tricky track,” he said. “There was a lot of moisture in the track and not a lot of passing. We had to take what we could get. Our goal for the main was just to finish. We started the race and passed some cars, then fell in line and survived.”

Baughman ran into mechanical woes the final two nights of the Speedweek, starting on Friday at Outlaw Motorsports Park in Wainwright, Okla. After placing fifth in his heat race and charging from the back to sixth place in the B Main, Baughman started the main event last. Unfortunately, he was forced to exit the track on Lap 11 with a 21st-place result because of the engine issue.

Saturday concluded the busy week with a visit to Lucas Oil Speedway, where Baughman finished sixth in his heat race before rallying from fifth to second place in a B Main. He started the feature on the outside of the 10th row, but was unable to take the green flag.

“They told us to get into line and I buzzed the tires and it locked it up,” he said. “Unfortunately we didn’t even get to complete one lap.”

Baughman is scheduled to make his season debut at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Saturday before competing with the ASCS Sooner Region and NCRA at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., on Sunday.
