Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (June 23, 2014) – It’s time to get your Sprint Car fix, as it will be Sprint Cars and more Sprint Cars this Saturday night at the state-of-the-art Dodge City Raceway Park with the Sixth Annual Steve King Memorial.
The NCRA Sprint Cars will face off with the ASCS Sooner Regional forces in Saturday night’s Sixth Annual Steve King Memorial with the URSS Sprint Cars battling it out as well atop the 3/8-mile clay oval. Racing action fires off at 7:30 p.m.
It marks the first of two consecutive weekends of Sprint Car action at DCRP, with Saturday’s Steve King Memorial serving as an ideal appetizer for the following weekend’s World of Outlaws Boothill Showdown on July 4-5.
The Steve King Memorial event is in memory of the popular Jetmore, KS, racer that lost his life in a 2006 Knoxville Nationals crash. The Steve King Foundation was established after his passing to assist members of the racing family in times of need. Detailed information regarding the Steve King Foundation is available at http://www.stevekingfoundation.org/.
C.J. Johnson and Dustin Morgan lead their respective 360-ci Sprint Car series into Saturday’s Steve King Memorial with Jake Bubak atop the 305-ci United Rebel Sprint Series point charts.
Quinter’s C.J. Johnson holds just a five-point lead over Jeremy Campbell in the NCRA title chase with J.D. Johnson, Danny Wood and Jon Freeman filling out the current top five. While Johnson’s NCRA lead is a tenuous one, Tulsa’s Dustin Morgan holds a commanding 167-point advantage over Alex Sewell in the ASCS Sooner Region championship race with Mike Goodman, Harli White and Sean McClelland in the top five.
Jake Bubak leads the URSS forces into the event, sitting atop both the National and Kansas Region URSS point charts. A 2012 winner at DCRP, Colorado’s Bubak holds a 40-point advantage over Zac Taylor in National points. Wyoming’s Taylor topped the May 10 event at DCRP to become the tenth consecutive different winner in URSS action atop the 3/8-mile oval.
Jeremy Huish, Steven Richardson and Zach Blurton round out the current top five in URSS National points.
Bubak’s Kansas point lead is a miniscule one at just two points over Blurton with Richardson another two points back in third.
Nebraska’s Jack Dover reigns as defending Steve King Memorial champion after winning last year’s event. Dover also topped the inaugural Steve King Memorial event in 2009 with Brady Bacon winning the three finales in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Tickets for Saturday’s Sixth Annual Steve King Memorial featuring NCRA vs. ASCS Sooner Region Sprint Cars along with URSS Sprint Cars are just $20 with children 11 and under free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.
