Inside Line Promotions – BECHTELSVILLE, Pa. (June 22, 2014) – Alex Bright capped a successful week by garnering another podium finish on Sunday at Grandview Speedway.

Bright maneuvered from eighth to third place during his ARDC Midgets heat race, which locked him into the feature redraw that determined the first six rows of the main event.

“The track was real slick from the beginning,” he said. “I wasted half the heat race messing around on the top side. I finally dropped down to the bottom and started moving forward. I passed everybody on the bottom.”

Unfortunately, Bright pulled the second-highest number – 11 – in the random draw, which lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the feature.

“I pretty much made passes one by one,” he said. “I think there was 12 laps to go and I was in fourth and passed the second and third-place guys on the same lap. I got by them in turns three and four and then they threw a caution when I was coming out of turn two. They put me back into fourth place and that really hurt me.”

Bright then rallied into second place with a handful of laps remaining and he closed bumper to bumper with the leader following a caution on Lap 23.

“I thought I was going to have a chance there, but the track was so slick it was around the bottom,” he said. “If you could hold your line on the bottom you weren’t going to get passed and that’s what he did. I tried to go to the top side in turns three and four on the last lap, but didn’t have enough. He beat me by about two car lengths.”

Bright’s second-place finish was his second of the week. He competed last Wednesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa., which hosted twin 17-lap features in the wingless micro sprint class.

After qualifying sixth to open the night, Bright started the first feature on the outside of the third row. He methodically maneuvered through the field before advancing into second place with approximately five laps remaining.

“Once I got to second I just kind of held my own,” he said. “I didn’t have anything for the leader. He didn’t run away from me, but I didn’t have anything to get by him.”

Bright ended in second place. The inversion for the second feature was a six, which started him on the inside of the third row.

“We missed the setup a little bit,” he said. “We tried adjusting to make my car better and it didn’t really work. I was trying everything. The cars were running around the bottom and it was follow the leader. With about six or seven laps to go I started trying to work the top side and didn’t really make any ground.”

Bright battled for a top five throughout the main event before ending with a sixth-place result.

He will return to action this Sunday at Path Valley Speedway Park in Spring Run, Pa., for a winged micro sprint event. It will mark Bright’s first race at the track this season.
