Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (June 18, 2014) – Channin Tankersley will resume his chase for the ASCS Gulf South Region championship this weekend.

Tankersley, who holds a 69-point advantage at the halfway point, is scheduled to compete at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, this Friday and at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas, on Saturday.

He has scored a top-seven finish in three races at Golden Triangle Raceway Park this season and Saturday marks Tankersley’s season debut at Royal Purple Raceway.

While the ASCS Gulf South doubleheader is his focus, Tankersley is coming off an up-and-down weekend when he piloted a car for Bruce Griffith.

During his inaugural race at Timberline Speedway in Corley, Texas, last Friday, Tankersley finished where he started – second – in his heat race. That missed the feature redraw by only one position and started him on the inside of the fifth row for the ASCS Lone Star Region main event.

“I stayed around eighth or ninth the whole race,” he said. “I really wasn’t going anywhere. Then the track started freeing up enough on the bottom where I could roll the wing back and go up top. I’d say during the last 10 laps we came on strong and started passing cars.”

Tankersley maneuvered into the top five and on the last lap he nearly powered to a podium finish as second through fourth place were separated by only feet.

“I just didn’t have enough track to squeeze between them,” he said after finishing fourth. “I was pretty satisfied. We showed a lot of speed the last part of the race.”

The team fought engine issues on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway during the opening round of the Bob Westphal Memorial Cup Speedweek with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

After starting sixth in his heat race, Tankersley was unable to finish and he was relegated to the back of the B Main.

“For some reason, maybe the high speed stuck or something, the motor was loading up real bad,” he said. “We just couldn’t hang with those guys on a big, locked-down track like that. We thought we fixed the problem. It ran better, but it still didn’t run good in the B Main. I was only able to get a few guys. Starting that far back in the B Main with that many heavy hitters you’re chances are slim to none to transfer.”

Tankersley advanced from 17th to 11th, which ended his night early. It was the first time this season he was unable to make the main event.

“I want to thank Bruce for the opportunity to drive for him last weekend and hopefully we can partner up again this season,” he said. “This weekend I’ll be back in Marvin and Peggy Pearson’s car trying to win a couple of ASCS Gulf South shows.”
