Inside Line Promotions – KOKOMO, Ind. (June 17, 2014) – Andrew Felker scored a pair of top 10s last weekend en route to a 10th-place finish in the USAC Honda National Midget Series Indiana Midget Week standings.

“I think it was a good week,” he said. “We put it in the show every night. We just had some tough luck through the middle part. I wish we could have had a couple more top 10s, but it was a good weekend.”

Following last Wednesday’s rained out race at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Ind., Felker opened the busy week on Thursday at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind., by qualifying fourth quickest. After placing fifth in his heat race to miss a lock-in position to the feature by only one spot, Felker won the B Main to transfer to the main event. He started the 30-lap race on the inside of the fourth row.

“I jumped up to third place early in the race and then fell back to fourth and rode in fourth for the middle of the race,” he said. “I tried going to the top late in the race and let (Michael) Pickens and (Bryan) Clauson by me.”

Felker ended with a sixth-place result, which was his best finish of the week and his 15th top 10 of the season.

Action continued on Friday at Bloomington Speedway in Bloomington, Ind., where Felker overcame a 27th-place qualifying effort by charging from seventh to third place in his heat race. After lining up on the inside of the 11th row for the main event, he quickly worked toward the top 10.

“I gambled on a setup and I had gone from 21st up to 13th or 14th,” he said. “I got flipped by Tanner Thorson. The cushion was right on the edge of the track. He ran in there with nowhere to go and it shoved us off the end of the track. I flipped pretty good. It got the axle, shocks, rear bumper, nerf bar, header, radius rods, all kinds of stuff.”

Felker was unable to finish the race and he was credited with a 23rd-place result.

Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Ind., hosted Saturday’s race. Felker qualified 22nd quickest and placed third in his heat race to lock himself into the main event, which he started on the inside of the 10th row.

“I struggled early, was a bit tight and fell to the back,” he said. “I was going pretty good in the middle of the race. Then a brake caliper fell off someone’s car and went through our right front shock. It took all the travel out of the right front. It took away a lot of the drive.”

Felker, who was just outside the top 10 when that issue occurred, rallied to post a 12th-place finish despite the ill-handling race car.

The weekend ended on Sunday at Kokomo Speedway, where Felker qualified seventh quickest and finished fourth in his heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the feature.

“I got up to fifth and ran there for a while,” he said. “I made a couple of mistakes and got passed. Early we were running the bottom, but by the end we were running the top.”

Felker spent the entire race battling between fifth and 10th before capping the night with a ninth-place result.

He is slated to compete this Sunday at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis.
