Jason Johnson Racing - MESQUITE, Texas (June 14, 2014) – After Mother Nature wiped out racing the past few weeks, the Ragin’ Cajun was chomping at the bit to get back on the track in his new Maxim.
Devil’s Bowl Speedway has always been one of his favorite places to run throughout his career and tonight was no different. On this night though he was even more exited to take the track debuting a new look with the black and yellow Priority Aviation Services, LLC designed hot rod.
There were 36 cars ready to compete for the win at the 41st Annual Devil’s Bowl Summer Nationals. With a stout field of competitors, there was no doubt about the fact that you would have to be on the move when the ‘go fast’ lights illuminated around this fast and racy half mile, high banked clay oval. Jason paced from his eighth starting spot in the third heat race.
Antsy to get on the power pedal in the Waco Metals/Gleco Plating Inc. #41, when the green flag waved he dropped his right foot and called for all the power his Don Ott Racing Engine could produce and powered his way forward. It worked.
He was fast and he was on the move. Working every opening, he charged his way to a third place finish crossing the line behind Tony Bruce, Jr. and Martin Edwards. His finishing position combined with his passing points locked him into a redraw spot in the feature event field.
Once the lineup was set for the 30-lap feature, the Louisiana wheelman would start from the seventh position in The Shop Diesel Service’s Maxim. Not deterred, the team made their final adjustments on the car as the driver slipped on his Oakley gloves and Shell Shock painted Arai Helmet as he situated himself in his office for the night.
The tap of the push truck sent him off and he pulled his Maxim to the inside of row four to start the event. Front row starters Seth Bergman and Tony Bruce, Jr. brought the field to a roar as the field of 22 cars screamed down the front straightaway. Bergman seized the lead with the remainder of the field rollin’ around the big half mile chasing the leader.
Jason made his way into the top five and eventually crossed the finish line in the fifth position behind Bergman, Blake Hahn, Tim Crawley, and Aaron Reutzel. Johnson commented, “This new Maxim ran well tonight.” He continued, “I am glad we were able to put on a good show and grab a top five for our Texas-based sponsors Priority Aviation Services, The Shop Diesel Service, Waco Metals and Gleco Plating tonight here at Devil’s Bowl.”
