Inside Line Promotions – HANFORD, Calif. (June 16, 2014) – Dominic Scelzi was able to breathe a huge sigh of relief on Saturday at Kings Speedway.

Scelzi broke through the barrier of recent tough luck to score a sixth-place result during the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series 28th annual Pombo/Sargent Classic.

“It was a really, really good night,” he said. “We showed speed from the time we unloaded. We learned a lot from this race car thanks to Peter Murphy, who was the crew chief for the night. Peter had the car dialed in.”

Scelzi qualified ninth quickest, which earned him a spot in the heat race inversion.

“In qualifying we went out toward the middle and we put down two good laps,” he said. “The car felt great. We were thrilled with our qualifying effort.”

After starting on the outside of the front row of his heat race, Scelzi led the distance to capture the win and earn a spot in the dash.

“That was a huge confidence booster,” he said. “Every time we went on the race track we felt really, really good.”

Scelzi then pulled the No. 7 in the random draw for the dash, which lined him up on the inside of the fourth row.

“We were going to pass for sixth and the car in sixth stepped out, got sideways and I got passed,” he said after placing eighth in the dash.

That lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the 30-lap main event.

“We got up to fourth with five laps to go and I got caught behind a lapped car and made some bad choices in traffic,” he said.

Scelzi ended with the sixth-place finish after losing two spots in the closing laps. It was his fourth top 10 of the season and provides a boost of confidence going into this weekend’s King of the West doubleheader on Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., and on Saturday at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif.

“It gave me a ton of confidence,” he said. “It’s something that felt so reassuring to go out and run good. I want to thank every single one of my sponsors for sticking with us through these past couple of months. We’re on the right track and making the right moves toward getting our program going again.”
