Inside Line Promotions – PUYALLUP, Wash. (June 15, 2014) – Although last Saturday’s race was rained out, it didn’t dampen Trey Starks’ spirit.

Starks had his high school graduation ceremony that morning and he would have been in scramble mode to get to Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., for the sprint car race.

“We were going to have to fly there in a small plane to avoid traffic just to get there on time,” he said. “Although it would have been great to race, it was nice to be able to spend that day with my family.”

Starks will return to the 3/10-mile track this Saturday for the final tune-up before the 43rd annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway June 26-28.

The three-day event, which paid out $20,000 to the winner last year, has been a puzzle for Starks. Starks led 20 laps during a qualifying night in 2011 before a parts failure in the closing laps cost him. Similar misfortune has hampered Starks the past couple of seasons at the marquee event, where he is yet to record a top 10.

“We’ve had a lot of success at Skagit Speedway throughout the last few years, but we haven’t hit everything just right during Dirt Cup,” he said. “Hopefully this year we can catch a few breaks, show speed and be up front contending for the win.”

Starks placed fourth during his lone race at Skagit Speedway this season.
