Inside Line Promotions – NEW EGYPT, N.J. (June 8, 2014) – Alex Bright’s hectic week didn’t go as planned.

Although he only competed in two of his five scheduled races, Bright remained extremely busy.

It started last Tuesday at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., where Bright pulled the No. 1 in the random feature redraw after finishing second in his ARDC Midgets heat race. Unfortunately, Bright was forced to surrender the prime starting position in the main event.

“Something happened in the heat race, but I ended up finishing,” he said. “We were trying to figure it out. We were trying everything. We figured we’d push it off for the feature and hopefully sort it out. I tried it for about two warm-up laps and pulled off. I didn’t want wreck anyone or get in anyone’s way.”

Following the mechanical woes, the team pulled the engine out of the midget and Bright traveled approximately 18 hours roundtrip to the engine builder in Indiana to get it fixed prior to Thursday’s ARDC event at New Egypt Speedway.

“I got back at 6 in the morning on Thursday,” he said.

Bright powered from sixth to second place in his heat race to again advance into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 5 to start the 25-lap main event on the inside of the third row.

After maneuvering into the runner-up position and running down the leader, Bright set his sight on the top spot.

“I ran him down and slid him for the lead and the next turn he slid me back,” he said. “I was getting ready to slide him back and the red flag came out. When I stopped it had a little bit of smoke coming out from the hood, but it stopped smoking right away. On the restart I got on the gas and the engine wasn’t what it was. The third, fourth and fifth-place cars started battling with me and I ended up holding onto second.”

Although Bright ended Thursday with a second-place finish – his 15th top five of the season – he opted to sit out the remainder of the weekend.

Bright traveled to Indiana on Sunday to have the engine builder fix the issues prior to the USAC Honda National Midget Series Indiana Midget Week, which kicks off this Wednesday at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Ind. Teams will then race on Thursday at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind.; on Friday at Bloomington Speedway in Bloomington, Ind.; on Saturday at Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Ind.; and on Sunday at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind.

“If our engine does get fixed right and it holds up, I’m really looking forward to it,” Bright said. “I think we have a good shot at possibly a win or a couple of them.”
