Van Dam Wins Marvin Smith Memorial, Scelzi Takes Delta Debut for Team ILP

Inside Line Promotions – SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. (June 5, 2014) – A pair of Inside Line Promotions pilots captured big wins last weekend.

Henry Van Dam claimed the inaugural Marvin Smith Memorial at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore., last Saturday. Van Dam won the dash and led nearly the entire 41-lap feature to earn the revolving trophy and a check for $4,100 in honor of Smith, who passed away last year.

Giovanni Scelzi won the outlaw class main event during his season debut at Delta Speedway in Stockton, Calif., on Saturday. He also charged from 20th to a second-place finish during the nonwing outlaw feature.

Additional Team ILP drivers with top fives include John Binz, who rallied from 10th to a second-place result on Friday at Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie, Texas. It marked the second straight runner-up finish for the micro sprint driver.

Sam Hafertepe Jr. maneuvered from 16th to place third on Saturday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., during the Hinchman Racewear Eagle Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Cody Freeman powered to a third-place result on Friday at Mountain Creek Speedway.

Tyler Thomas advanced to place fourth on Saturday at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Ind., with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series.

Joe Trenca earned his first career top five with a fifth-place finish on Saturday at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pa., with the Patriot Sprint Tour.
