Inside Line Promotions – BROWNSTOWN, Ind. (June 3, 2014) – Tyler Thomas continues to race consistently as he searches for his first victory of the season.
Thomas registered a top five and two top 10s last weekend during the Ford EcoBoost Challenge with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series at a pair of Indiana tracks.
“Hopefully here pretty soon we can get that win,” he said. “I’m really happy with all the top fives I’ve gotten. The car has been working good every week and we’ve been able to be there at the end of the races. We’re working on being quicker at the beginning of the night so we can get a good starting spot in the feature.”
Last weekend kicked off on Friday at Bloomington Speedway in Bloomington, where Thomas finished where he started – fourth – in his heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the eighth row for the main event.
“At Bloomington we kind of struggled all night,” he said. “We just missed the setup in the heat race and the feature. The track was one lane on the bottom. It was really difficult to pass. I made most of my passes at the beginning of the race. After that we fell in line with everybody else.”
Thomas rallied from 16th to post a ninth-place result.
The Ford EcoBoost Challenge wrapped up on Saturday at Brownstown Speedway as Thomas opened the event by charging from seventh to fourth place in his heat race. That started him on the outside of the fifth row for the feature.
“They reworked the track before the A Main and made it really good,” he said. “It was one of the best tracks we’ve had all year. I made the bottom work for a few laps and got up to fifth. I kinda went back and forth between the top and bottom. At the end everybody moved up to the top. I managed to slide (Michael) Pickens on the last lap for fourth.”
Thomas scored his seventh top five of the season with his fourth-place finish. It was his third top five in the last four races.
Thomas kicks off a busy next couple of weeks starting with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series Illinois SPEED Week, which begins on Thursday at Quincy Raceways in Quincy, Ill. He will then tackle Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Ill., on Friday; Macon Speedway in Macon, Ill., on Saturday; and Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill., on Sunday.
“I’m really excited,” he said. “I’ve never been to Quincy before, but Lincoln and Macon are two of my good tracks. I think my best shot (to win) is going to be in the next couple of weeks.”
Thomas will then compete in the USAC Indiana Midget Week June 11-15 at five different tracks throughout Indiana.
