Tracy Hines Heads to Pennsylvania & New Jersey for the Eastern Storm Tour

NEW CASTLE, Ind.—June 2, 2014—The biggest hotbed for traditional sprint car racing is without a doubt the state of Indiana. It can be argued that Pennsylvania holds that same moniker for the winged set. Bridging the gap between the two for the last seven years has been the Eastern Storm Tour Presented by RW and Partners for the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series, which brings traditional sprint car racing to the East Coast, predominately the Central Pennsylvania area. Tracy Hines has taken part in each of the last five editions of the Eastern Storm Tour and will make it an even half-dozen this year as he embarks on the five-race mini-series aboard his self-owned No. 4 DRC, backed by The Carolina Nut Company.

The Eastern Storm Tour opens for Hines on Tuesday, June 3 at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania. Action this shifts to Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown on Wednesday, June 4. The five-race mini-series heads to New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey on Thursday, June 5. The Eastern Storm Tour returns to Pennsylvania on Saturday, June 7 for a date at Port Royal Speedway, and concludes on Sunday, June 8 at Susquehanna Speedway Park in Newberrytown.

“Along with Indiana Sprint Week and Midget Week, this is one of the busiest weeks of the year,” said Hines. “We have traditionally run pretty well on the bigger tracks in Pennsylvania. We've been fast on all of the big tracks this year and a couple of times just didn't have luck on our side, like last race at Terre Haute (Action Track). We've had some extra time to gear up for this week, so we are locked and loaded and ready to go.”

Hines has three career top-10 finishes in five starts at Grandview Speedway. The native of New Castle, Indiana, made his debut at the high-banked third-mile in 2009, finishing fourth. He was sixth in 2010, ninth in 2011, and 11th in each of the last two years.

The 2002 Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series titlist has raced twice at Lincoln Speedway in his career. He finished fourth in his second start at the three-eighths-mile in 2011, and was 12th in his debut at the track in 2010. Hines has made four starts on three-eighths-miles this season, earning three finishes of sixth or better, including a second-place showing at Bubba Raceway Park in Florida, and a third-place performance at Junction Motor Speedway in Nebraska.

Hines has made three starts at New Egypt Speedway in his career, picking up a pair of top-10 finishes. The best finish of that lot was a fourth-place run in 2011. He came home seventh in 2010 at the seven-sixteenths-mile and was 11th in 2012.

Port Royal Speedway has hosted the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series each of the last two years. Hines finished second in his debut at the track in 2012, and was sixth last season. The veteran driver raced at Susquehanna Speedway Park for the first time last year, finishing third.

Heading into the Eastern Storm Tour, Hines is fourth in points with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series. He has one victory on the season, with that coming at Gas City Speedway in his home state of Indiana, along with seven top-10 finishes, of which five are top-five performances.

“It’s definitely neat to race in front of the fans out East, who are used to only seeing winged sprint cars,” Hines said. “Its two unique forms of racing and there are a lot of great tracks out there that showcase the sheer speed of a sprint car, no matter what kind it is. The Eastern Storm Tour seems to gain more and more momentum each year and it's great to be a part of that.”
