Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (June 2, 2014) – Dominic Scelzi and his Roth Motorsports backed team are hoping that recent changes will pay off during the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series doubleheader this weekend.
Scelzi will tackle Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., on Friday for the 2nd annual David Tarter Memorial before wrapping up the weekend on Saturday with his season debut at Marysville Raceway Park in Marysville, Calif.
“We’ve really struggled with our qualifying and basically the entire night until the main event,” he said. “There’s been so many little things over and over again. We changed something with the setup a few weeks ago and we really liked it. We’re hoping we can have a little bit of luck and we have this thing figured out.”
Friday will mark Scelzi’s third race of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway. He finished 11th in his season debut at the quarter-mile track on May 2 before a pair of crashes ended Scelzi’s night early with the King of the West at Silver Dollar Speedway on May 3.
“We’ve really struggled with this new car and it seems like everything we do to it will help one thing, but hurt another,” he said. “We think our car has been way too tight. We’re hoping that is the case. We’re looking for something different.”
Scelzi made his inaugural visit to Marysville Raceway Park last season, but only competed in hot laps before mechanical problems ended the night early.
“I don’t really know anything about that race track,” he said. “I’ve seen a couple of videos. With the few laps around that track it was hard to tell what the track does. It’s an extremely small race track with tight corners. I’m hoping we can stay free with the car all night and able to get up and off the corner.”
With the recent changes and a couple of small tracks on the schedule for this weekend, Scelzi said consistency is the objective.
“We feel like we’re headed in the right direction and we’re confident that we can go in to these two race tracks and pull off a couple of top-10 finishes,” he said.
