Ball Scores Top 10 in SPEED SPORT Challenge, Top F

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 27, 2014) – Jamie Ball is coming off an extremely successful week.

Ball celebrated his birthday by flying to North Carolina for the inaugural SPEED SPORT Challenge, which was the first-ever winged outlaw kart race that was taped for a June 5 television broadcast on MAVTV.

In his first kart event on dirt since August of 2010, Ball won his heat race and finished eighth in the main event at Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, where top-notch drivers from across the country competed for the top prize.

“For the most part it was like riding a bike,” he said. “It took me a little to get acclimated to the kart. I had a good time.”

After flying back to Iowa, Ball put together a solid night last Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in his 360ci sprint car for White Lightning Motorsports.

Ball qualified fourth quickest and placed sixth in his heat race to make the feature inversion, which started him fifth in the main event.

“In the feature I got to second within five or six laps,” he said. “I just didn’t have anything for Jason Johnson. I was full throttle on the cushion pushing as hard as I could. The car ended up tightening up so I wasn’t comfortable on the cushion.”

Ball then moved to the bottom groove and he lost a couple of positions to end with a fourth-place result, which was his second top five of the season. Ball ranks fourth in the championship standings.

“I think our car is there,” he said. “I just need to not make the mistakes on the driver side.”

The night was nearly as smooth for Larry Ball Jr. in the 410 class.

Despite being the last car out for qualifying, Ball Jr. timed in 14th quickest and he won his first heat race of the season to lock himself into the main event.

“He really couldn’t be a whole lot happier with it,” Jamie Ball said.

Unfortunately, there was miscommunication about the feature lineup and Ball Jr. started 20th rather than the 12th starting position he earned. That mired him at the back and he finished the feature with a 21st-place result

White Lightning Motorsports, which hopes that Devin Kline’s engine will be fixed this week to compete in the 305ci class, will return to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday.
