Pair Of Top-5s, And A Top-10 For Covington's Triple Header Weekend

Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (May 28, 2014) Matt Covington had a solid weekend over the Memorial Holiday. Matt was able to pick up a 6th place finish at the Cotton Bowl Speedway on Friday night, a 4th place finish at Shady Oaks on Saturday, and a 2nd place finish at Beaumont on Sunday to complete the ASCS Gulf South Region tripleheader weekend .

On Friday night Matt and the team took on the Cotton Bowl Speedway.

After a deep heat race draw Covington would rally in the heat to finish second from the back. Matt would line up in the 7th starting position after the redraw. In the feature Matt would fight motor stumbling issues but still fight late in the race to come home 6th in the feature.

Saturday night would have Covington and the crew making the trip to Shady Oaks Speedway in Goliad, TX.

After another deep pill draw, Matt would find himself lining up in the back of the heat for the second night in a row. With a great handling car, Covington charged to the front for a second place finish and locked himself into the night's re-draw. Matt would draw the outside front row for the feature. At the drop of the green Covington would find himself out front leading for a handful of laps before the motor stumbling issues would come back. The motor progressively got worse and started popping and gradually became slow to accelerate off the corners. The hesitating motor and loss of power would force Covington to settle for the fourth finishing position at the drop of the checkers.

After Saturday night, Matt and the team would load up and head for Golden Triangle Raceway Park for the weekend finale.

With another poor pill draw, Matt would line up in the back row of the heat race again. Covington would do all he could to drive to the front. Working hard from the back, Matt would ultimately cross the strips in the third position in the heat. The third place finish would give Matt the fourth starting position in the feature after the redraw. Once the feature underway, Covington would work his way to second behind leader. Matt would inherit the lead on lap 14 as the leader pulled to the infield with mechanical issues. Matt would lead the race until the motor gremlins reappeared and forced him to give up the lead on lap 19. With the motor stumbling off the corners, Matt would do what he could to remain in the second position. As the feature came to a close, Covington would have to settle for the runner-up spot in 2nd place.

“This past weekend was very frustrating for me,” stated Covington. “We fought a motor issue all three nights. We changed about everything we could and still didn’t fix the problem. I really hate it because we could have won both Saturday and Sunday if it wasn’t for that. But I would like to thank my crew for all their hard work and not giving up. All we can do is keep plugging away and working hard at it and see if we can’t go to Kansas and Nebraska this weekend and get us a top-5 or win.”

Matt and his Covington Motorsports team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, Winters, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Performance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, Bob Hurley RV, Eaton Industrial, Maxwell Oil, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2014.
