Inside Line Promotions – SAPULPA, Okla. (May 16, 2014) – Mike Goodman recorded his best finish of the season last Friday at Creek County Speedway during ASCS Sooner Region competition.

After drawing the outside of the front row of his heat race, Goodman took the lead on the initial start and powered to the win.

“We got the lead off the start and went unchallenged,” he said. “I think I won the heat race by a straightaway or more. The track was actually a little freer in the heats than the feature. It still had a little bit of looseness on it.”

That earned him enough points to advance to the feature redraw, where Goodman pulled the No. 2 in the random draw to start the 25-lap main event on the outside of the front row.

“We had a good draw,” he said. “I knew that race was going to be decided on the first lap. We did run (polesitter Aaron Reutzel) down in traffic. He was just too good.”

Goodman stayed within striking distance and took the top spot momentarily around the midpoint of the feature.

“I think I got the lead for one straightaway,” he said. “In lapped traffic I caught him. I got the advantage on him and picked him on a couple of lapped cars. Then I got crossed up and he got back around me.”

Goodman ended with the runner-up finish, which marked his third top five during ASCS action this season. He is second in the ASCS Sooner Region championship standings – only 34 points out of the lead – going into this Saturday’s event at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, where he is searching for his first career win.

“We want to go to Devil’s Bowl and put a win on the board,” he said. “I’ve ran well at Devil’s Bowl. I’ve finished on the podium a few times.”
