Inside Line Promotions – PETALUMA, Calif. (May 12, 2014) – Dominic Scelzi got back on track last weekend thanks to help from Roth Motorsports.

After a couple of frustrating weekends and some key setup changes, Scelzi scored a fifth-place result and earned the Hard Charger Award with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series last Saturday at Petaluma Speedway.

“We changed a lot of stuff around last week,” he said. “Todd Ventura and Troy went over the car. They had a lot of hours in it trying to figure out what could be the problem. They found a lot of little things and we thought all of them together would add up. I cannot thank Todd, Troy and Dennis and Teresa Roth enough. Without them there is no way I’d run as well as I did at Petaluma.”

The night began with Scelzi qualifying 14th quickest, which narrowly missed the heat race inversion. He then finished where he started – fifth – in his heat race to lock into the main event.

“We decided to try something that I’ve never tried before with the setup,” he said. “I got really comfortable in the main event. Wherever I put the car it worked and we were able to move up through the field.”

Scelzi started the feature on the inside of the seventh row and he methodically worked his way toward the front.

“It took me a while to get up through the field due to running green for 23 laps,” he said. “I ran the bottom, middle and top in turns one and two and was fast everywhere. In turns three and four it was really slick and the cushion was pretty close to the fence. Nobody was running the top at the end of the race in turns three and four. I was making up a lot of ground there.”

Scelzi made a bid for a podium result before setting for fifth place.

“For a second I got next to (third-place finisher) Bud Kaeding and I actually passed (fourth-place finisher) Kyle Hirst and the yellow came out,” he said. “We were really strong and had good restarts. It felt really good to run fifth right behind Kyle Hirst.”

Scelzi’s performance moved him to sixth in the King of the West championship standings – only 19 points out of the top five – entering the Chris and Brian Faria Memorial this Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif.

“I really needed that good run,” he said. “To have that confidence going into Tulare, a place I absolutely love, I feel really confident. The next thing I’m shooting for is a win, but if we can have another good run like this it’ll feel like a win.”
