Inside Line Promotions – SAPULPA, Okla. (May 11, 2014) – Tony Bruce Jr. recorded his second podium of the season last Friday during the ASCS Sooner Region event at Creek County Speedway.

After drawing the lowest number to start the night, Bruce Jr. led the distance of his heat race from the pole position.

“We started on the pole and were able to check out from there,” he said. “I got a good start and that put us in the redraw. The track was super wet and kind of rough. It was real tough and hard to pass, so starting position was crucial.”

Bruce Jr. then pulled the No. 6 in the random draw, which started him on the outside of the third row for the 25-lap feature.

“On the initial start we were able to pick off a couple of cars,” he said. “Once we caught traffic I was able to go to the bottom. Not many people were able to go down there and get drive off the corners. If it would have stayed in traffic I would have liked to see how we would have done.”

However, a caution in the final 10 laps didn’t present any new opportunities as the leader had clear track.

“After that last restart nobody was going to pass anyone in open air,” Bruce Jr. said. “We just had to ride in line after the final restart and hope someone made a mistake to pass them.”

Bruce Jr. ended with a third-place finish, which was his third top five of the season.

He is slated to head to Texas this weekend for the ASCS Lone Star Region doubleheader Friday at Boyd Raceway in Boyd and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite.

“We’re looking forward to it this weekend,” he said. “We feel like we have a good shot at both of them.”

Bruce Jr. won last season during his first-career race at Boyd Raceway and he picked up a win and a fifth-place result this season at Devil’s Bowl Speedway with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
