Dills Sidelined Early During Wingless Sprint Car Debut at Cottage Grove

Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (May 7, 2014) – Steering issues hampered Patrick Dills during his inaugural wingless sprint car race last Saturday.

Dills qualified 15th quickest during the Northwest Wingless Tour event at Cottage Grove Speedway – a track where he had made his winged sprint car debut two weeks earlier.

“It was a lot different than what I’m used to,” he said. “The way you drive it is completely different. It was totally uncomfortable for me. I started getting the hang of it in the heat race.”

After starting on the outside of the front row of his heat race, Dills ended with a fifth-place result on the quarter-mile track. He then lined up 15th for the main event before his steering acted up in the opening laps.

“I went to go in the corner and the steering wheel locked to the right so I just pulled in,” he said.

Dills was credited with a 17th-place result.

He is scheduled to return to Cottage Grove Speedway this Saturday to compete in the 360ci class.

“I want to get as much seat time as possible,” he said. “Our goal right now is to gain laps and seat time.”
