Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (May 6, 2014) After a 15th place finish at Outlaw Motorsports Park on Friday, Matt Covington ended with a DNF and 22nd place finish at West Memphis on Saturday this past weekend.
“It was a rough weekend to say the least,” stated Covington.
On Friday night Matt would get caught behind a car on the inside lane that didn’t take off in the heat race. The end result would be a loss of a couple positions and 5th place finish that would land Matt in the night’s B-Main.
After finishing third in the B, Matt would start the feature in the 19th starting spot. Matt would race hard from the rear of the field and ultimately settle for the 15th finishing position.
“We just got behind for the night with the botched heat race,” Matt said. “We made it out of the B and once we got into the A-Main we was just average and not able to work our way past as many cars as I would have liked.”
Matt and the team loaded up after Friday’s feature and made the long haul to Arkansas for Saturday’s Rock ‘N Roll 50.
After a front row starting position Matt would end up 2nd in the heat race which would line him up inside row six for the 50 lap A-Main.
Once the race got underway, Matt would go to work and race his way into the top ten. About halfway through the race is when Matt’s luck would run out. Racing on the outside for position Matt would get forced into the straightaway wall knocking the front axle out and ending his night.
“To be honest I am not sure what to think about the feature incident,” quoted Covington. “I would have thought he knew I was there once I was all the way beside him, but it is what it is and we will just move on and keep plugging away. My goal right now is just to get everything ready and go to these next few races and do our best to turn our luck around with some solid finishes we deserve.”
Matt and his Covington Motorsports team would like to thank T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, Winters, Brodix, C.G. Martin Company, Factor 1 Racing, All-Star Performance, Outlaw Wings, Pro Shocks, DMI Components, Keizer Wheels, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, GME Steering, Wesmar Racing Engines, Bob Hurley RV, Eaton Industrial, Maxwell Oil, and Schoenfeld Headers for their support in 2014.
