Tracy Hines Finishes in the Top-Four Both Nights in Nebraska

NEW CASTLE, Ind.—May 4, 2014— It’s often said that consistency wins championships. That same mantra also puts drives in contention for race wins, which ultimately leads to a strong showing in the point standings. The start of the 2014 campaign has certainly been a consistent one for veteran Tracy Hines as he has racked up eight top-five finishes in 11 starts in the three USAC National series. With the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series, he has five top-five finishes in eight races, adding third- and fourth-place showings to his tally this past weekend in Nebraska.

In the second-ever event for the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series at Eagle Raceway near Lincoln on Friday, May 2, Hines finished fourth aboard The Carolina Nut Company DRC. He followed that up by finishing on the podium in third, on Saturday, May 3, in the series debut at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction.

At Junction Motor Speedway, Hines started fifth in the 30-lap main event. The race went green-to-checker without a single caution, in just over nine minutes. Hines charged into the second spot early in the race and was able to close in on the leader and eventual winner Hunter Schuerenberg in lapped traffic, but was not quite able to make the pass. The 2002 Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series champion would end up finishing third, which vaulted him to fourth in the series standings.

“We were really good early in the race, probably too good to be honest,” said Hines. “We ended up losing the bottom groove and that hurt us as the race went on. All in all, it was a good weekend. It’s a long way to tow out to Nebraska, so to come home with two solid finishes makes the trip worthwhile and the drive back home seem not quite as long.”

Hines turned in another strong effort in time trials at Junction Motor Speedway, stopping the clock second-fastest. He circled the three-eighths-mile in 16.323-seconds, which was only bettered by Brady Bacon. Hines lined up sixth in the second heat race and finished fourth, which put him fifth on the grid for the 30-lap main event.

The native of New Castle, Indiana, was fastest in time trials at Eagle Raceway, recording a lap of 13.462-seconds around the high-banked third-mile. He finished fourth in the first heat race after starting in the sixth spot. By way of the invert used to lineup the first three rows of the main event, Hines started sixth for the 30-lapper. He moved up to fourth in the early going and would maintain that position in the running order for the remainder of the A-Feature. A pair of cautions and one red flag period slowed the 30-lap contest.

Hines is currently fourth in points with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series, following the first eight races of the season. The next scheduled event for the series is the Tony Hulman Classic at the Terre Haute Action track in Indiana, on May 21.

The veteran driver is back in action next weekend with the Honda USAC National Midget Series in the Hut Hundred at Tri-City Speedway and the Belleville Bash at Belle-Claire Speedway, both in Illinois.
