Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 4, 2014) – It began as one friend helping another.
Since that night in 1993, Tony Bokhoven has found that his calling and his ambition to announce has reached heights he’d never imagined.
“My dad drag raced at Eddyville Raceway Park when I was a little kid,” Bokhoven said of the track that is located approximately 40 minutes from his hometown of Pella, Iowa. “I was there to watch legend cars one night. The announcer for the race didn’t show up and I knew the promoter. He brought me a name list and that’s how it started.”
During the past 20-plus years, Bokhoven has not only developed into a staple of the Sprint Car Capital of the World as the weekly announcer at Knoxville Raceway, he has also transitioned into a pit reporter on the CBS Sports Network and NBC Sports Network.
Bokhoven has been a part of the TORC: The Off-Road Championship television broadcasts the past two seasons as well as a reporter at World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series events. However, it was a unique opportunity to pit report for the Motor Racing Network at a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Iowa Speedway last summer that highlights Bokhoven’s impressive résumé.
“I can’t tell you how long I’ve been trying to get in with them,” he said. “Last week they called and asked if I wanted to work the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this August. This is a huge opportunity.”
While his schedule is loaded with the MRN gig as well as select events on the CBS Sports Network and NBC Sports Network, Bokhoven is actively searching for additional opportunities to showcase his announcing and pit reporting skills.
“It’s not my full-time job, but that’s my aspiration,” he said. “I’ve been blessed with some great opportunities and I hope that with continued hard work I will get more chances to work in television and radio.”
