Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 29, 2014) – Another race ended in another win for Derek Hagar, who scored his fifth victory of the season last Saturday at I-30 Speedway.
Hagar opened the event by drawing the lowest number, which put him on the pole of the first heat race. He led the distance to register his fourth heat race win of the year.
“When you draw the No. 1 and start on the pole of the heat race you’re pretty much behind and hope nobody else really passes anybody for passing points,” he said. “We ended up fourth in points and started fourth in the A Main.”
Hagar didn’t hold his position for very long.
“The track was pretty slick from top to bottom,” he said. “I kinda rolled through the middle in turns one and two and got to third. The first- and second-place guys overshot the corner and went up the track in turn three. I hugged the bottom and got a real good bite coming off turn four and took the lead.”
Hagar stayed on the bottom for the remainder of the 25-lap feature to maintain the top position until the checkered flag was waved.
“I stayed on the bottom the whole time,” he said. “We had a couple of guys who tried to run around us to the outside. I knew just to hold my composure and to be patient and wait for it to come off the bottom. It was pretty slow. As long as you didn’t slip up you’d be ok. We just held our line real good and hugged the infield tires.”
The win was his second straight and third in the last four weeks.
Hagar will take his momentum to Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., this Saturday for the Eagle Motorsports Rock ‘N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
“With the way the last two weeks have gone I believe we have some good momentum built up to go to Riverside and try to get that Gibson guitar,” he said of the trophy that the winner receives. “Oh, no, I don’t know how to play one. I know how to hold one though.”
