NEW CASTLE, Ind.—April 18, 2014—The list of past winners at Eldora Speedway is a venerable 'Who's Who' of the racing world. Tracy Hines is part of this prestigious list and is among a select group of open wheel drivers that has double digit wins at the legendary track. Hines has won the majority of his races at Eldora in a sprint car, but also has been victorious in a midget. He is second all-time in Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series win at the half-mile with nine. Hines will look to add to his win total this weekend as the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series invades the legendary Ohio oval.
The Don Branson/Jud Larson Classic for the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series at Eldora Speedway is set for Saturday, April 19. A full racing program is scheduled with time trials, heat races and a 30-lap A-Feature.
Hines made four starts at Eldora last season. He finished third with the Honda USAC National Midget Series during the 4-Crown Nationals in September. He was leading the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series portion of the event, before getting into the wall in the late going. Hines was ninth in the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series tilt during 4-Crown. The versatile driver also competed with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at the half-mile last July, finishing 13th.
“Eldora has been pretty good to me over the years,” said Hines, driver of The Carolina Nut Company DRC. “It’s a high-speed, momentum track and you have to keep it wound up all the way around. Sometimes when we go there in the spring we are the first race of the year, but they had a show last weekend, so it’s good that the track has a few laps on it.”
In his career at the historic half-mile, Hines has won nine times with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series, including three victorious in the Don Branson/Jud Larson Classic. He won the event for the first time in 2001 and followed it up with triumphs in 2008 and 2012. The event was rained out last year.
Hines has also claimed two wins at Eldora with the Honda USAC National Midget Series. He scored his first midget win at the high-banked half-mile in 1996 and was victorious again in 2006 during the 4-Crown Nationals.
Hines heads to Eldora seventh in points with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series. He has two top-10 finishes this season in three starts, including a season-best second-place performance at Bubba Raceway Park during the season-opening events in Florida in February.
“We started the year off pretty good in the sprint car in Florida, and had some bad luck at Lawrenceburg (Speedway) last race, so hopefully we can make up for that,” said Hines. “With some races at bigger tracks coming up when we head east, it will be good to see where we are on our big-track program at Eldora.”
