Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (April 16, 2014) – Imagination will meet reality this weekend as Patrick Dills makes his sprint car debut.
Dills has spent countless hours playing the World of Outlaws Playstation video game between kage kart races throughout the years.
“I know it’s going to be a lot different versus the game,” he said. “It’s going to take a lot of concentration and I have to stay focused.”
The 13-time kart champion is scheduled to hit the track in the Northwest Extreme Sprints class – which is like a 305ci or limited sprint class in other parts of the country – Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway.
Dills has won numerous kart races on the karting track inside the quarter-mile oval, which is located in the town he grew up.
“Ever since I started karts everything fell right into place,” he said. “This just worked out perfectly this time. At the end of the summer season for the karts last year Brian Crockett came up to me and my dad and said that he is getting another sprint car and wants to help us put it together so I could get in one.”
The team spend the offseason building the sprint car and the Dills family also purchased a new trailer. For now the schedule will be focused on Cottage Grove Speedway, but Dills hopes to travel toward the end of the season if he performs well.
It all starts this Saturday and Dills noted that his expectation at this point in the season is to get as many laps as he can.
“I’m figuring around the main event is when I’ll get the hang of it,” he said. “It’s mainly to go out there and get some seat time.”
